CHEMICAL PEELS

Peels act by dissolving the proteins that bind the skin cells together, which result in the skin being shed off. This allows the body to swiftly produce new cells. Overall the effect is rejuvenated fresher skin.

Peels can be broadly classified by their Depth of penetration (Superficial, Medium, Deep) and/or Composition (Eg. AHA: alpha hydroxy acid; BHA: beta hydroxy acid; AKA: alpha-keto acid; TCA: trichloroacetic acid).

The choice of the peel depends on specific indications of the patients. Some of the commonly targeted problems are Pigmentation (Melasma, Freckles, Tan removal), Acne, Rosacea, Anti-aging, Rejuvenation and Scar treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

• The skin is first cleansed and prepped.
• The peel solution is then applied to the target area for a specific amount of time depending on the product.
• After treatment, peeling of skin will start after a few days. The amount and duration of peeling will depend entirely on the depth of peeling. The deeper the peel, the more the skin will shed.
• Common side effects are stinging, redness uneven pigmentation. These are mostly temporary and will resolve in time.
• Treatment would require multiple sessions which is tailor-made to each person’s concern. Optimal results are seen if the patient comes for regular, timely sessions.
